Okay, I have been asked by many younger guys in their teens - "How can I get bigger?" or "How can I get stronger?" The answer to this question is: time, patience, diet, and perseverance.

Let's tackle size first as it is a more frequently asked. What younger guys fail to see is that their metabolism is running in high gear, and most everything that they eat gets consumed very quickly. So how do you overcome a fast metabolism? Simple - eat more. Now by eat more, I don't mean make an extra two trips a day to McDonald's - I mean at breakfast you eat yogurt (mixed with oatmeal), a banana, and a BIG glass of milk. Then, two hours later, eat a banana (or apple) maybe a small (6-8 oz) of tuna or chicken breast followed by a protein drink. For lunch 8-12 oz of lean red meat or chicken, long grain rice, veggies, and a power bar for desert. Two hours later an apple, yogurt mixed with oatmeal, and a protein drink. Dinner - 12 oz of fish, chicken, or steak, a serving of whole grain rice, a serving of veggies (can be a salad) and some low fat cottage cheese. 2 hours later a protein drink.

This exact diet was how I gained a good dose (40 lbs) of lean muscle mass in one year. WARNING - if you eat like this, you need to make sure that you work your rear off in the gym or you will end up looking like a puffer fish.

I get asked by these same guys about AAS, pro hormones, or other hardcore supplements all the time. The fact is that many of these guys don't eat enough (and what they do eat is crap like McDonald's or Wendy's) and their intensity in the gym is for $hit. I trained a sixteen year old last summer - and just when he started to make some decent gains - he started chasing tail instead. I understand the need to chase tail - but there is a time for everything - and you have to be mature enough to set priorities in your life if you really want to grow. With these things being said, all through your teen years - you will never have that much natural testosterone in your body again - if you use AAS - you are turning off the natural production and replacing it with a synthetic form - really - ripping your body off of some REAL good - natural androgens. I promise - if you eat like I just outlined above - you will grow, it will be all yours (you didn't get it from a bottle). Also if your intensity level is for squat - no amount of supplements - legal or illegal will get you any bigger than you are now.

Okay - on the strength front, many mistakes are made in just the routine used. Most often times, guys will be doing 10 or 12 reps per exercise, 3 sets per exercise, and 5 or 6 exercises per muscle. YOU WILL NOT GET STRONGER THIS WAY! To get strong - rep ranges should be 4 to 6 reps at above 70% max, 3 sets per exercise, NO MORE THAN 3 EXERCISES PER MUSCLE GROUP. And by intensity - this thread explains intensity, no need for me to reiterate.

http://www.illpumpyouup.com/forum/fo...asp?TID=2384&a mp;a mp;PN=1

So before you go buying craploads of supplements, look at your routine, look at your diet, and lastly - look at yourself and ask yourself if you have what it takes to REALLY reach your goals. If you do - than GREAT! Get off your a$$ and do it - and post your pictures in 6 months - we'll all be giving you props. If not - well.....

Good luck guys -

Nice post, partains direcly to me, thanks.

Question time, for something like chest (or really anything) I do 3-4 exercisies and 6-10 reps, is that ok for getting strong and big? Seems to be working now.

Hey Falc - I am really glad you asked this question - it is an excellent one.Three to fourexercises and 6-10 reps will give you a nice balance of size and strength for mid size muscle groups (back, chest) however, smaller muscle groups (biceps, triceps,delts)- to get this same balance, you will want to stick in the 6-8 rep range. Legs (quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves) - will need8 - 12 reps to get the same effect. Now I've stated this before somewhere else - that if you train for both size and strength together (in other words you manipulate your workout that will give you decent increases in both areas) you will never excel in either area. This is why bodybuilders trainwith heavy weights in the off-season so that they can build monster strength and when pre-season comes up they lighten the load and pump the $shit out of the muscles with the lighter weight - and everything - I mean EVERYTHING is about peak concentration and getting as much blood into the muscle tissue as it can stand. Diets also change (obviously) from off season - to on or pre season. But you REALLY don't need to worry about that - asI pointed out in the previous post - your metabolism is going at ahundred miles an hour. So what this all boils down to Falc - is that you should treat the next six month to a year or so as your "off season" - use the diet in the above post - use all of those natural androgens you have running wild in your system to build high quality muscle - and I promise - in asix monthstime you will not be disappointed - andI REALLY look forward to seeing the results!

As a side note - only do your cardio to keep your cardiovascular system in shape (i.e. keep your heart rate above 125 for your thirty minute cardio session - once or twice a week).

Thanks Mac for the KUDOS.

I pack my lunch every day. We also have a crappy cafeteria - and I will not touch that rot gut. So - go to the store - buy your food for the week - and pack your lunch (for the yogurt - you will need to keep it in an igloo lunch box). This is another instance where discipline is key - if it means enough to you, you will find a way to get around the obstacles.

Believe me when I tell you Falc, even when you start to show big signs of improvement - some guy will come up to you and say that he knows a better way to build muscle than what you are doing. There is a good ol' saying that you can apply here - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". In other words - if what you are doing is REALLY working for you, then keep doing it.

I am glad to help out here Falc....

That exactly applies to me, Im gaining mass, I want to do some more strength work though. I feel good about my program, and of course a few little changes have to come up for me at least. I need to redo parts of my program after reading alot of stuff on here though.

I pack my lunch also, I just avoid packing the unhealthy stuff for now, not really focusing in on anything particular right now.My metabolism is like a rocket right now, so I just eat and eat without gaining weight.

BTW how old are you?

Hey Falc -

I'm 42 - check out this link:

http://www.illpumpyouup.com/forum/fo...asp?TID=2309&a mp;a mp;PN=1

Anyway - you could try some of the weight gainers if you want. How you work these in is you find out how much protein is in a serving of the weight gainer - and you add protein powder to make the total protein for that drink 55g. You can only metabolize 55g of protein in one sitting (approx. every two hours - maybe a little less for you because of your metabolism). This is just a thought - and the weight gainer will give you more carbs - & it will help with workout energy levels too.

You can supplement all of your protein shakes this way except for the one that is after 5pm. I would keep that one just a protein drink - no weight gainer.

Yeah, I dont want to fool with weight gainers or creatine, I just don't trust rumors and what else Ived heard about creatine really. I just want to gain weight with muscle, not by using weight gainers. Besides, I dont have any money

I think I'll be fine with protien for now.

damn, your huge! I should post some pics of myself.

Okay Falc - however, just to let you know - if weight gainers are used properly - they feed muscle tissue and don't add to adipose tissue. But I do understand the no money part - so you will have to rely on a heavy protien diet balanced with the right amount of calories, carbs, and fats. It's difficult - but it can be done.

Good luck - post some pics, and keep us posted.

No worries Falc - get done what you need to get done, the gym is more important than the pics anyway. At least get somebody to snap one right now - even if you don't get to post it yet - just so we can see a "before" pic when you get time to load it. This also gives you a good reference point to quantify your own gains.

And as far as helping you out - that's why we are all here 'cause nobody has ALL of the answers - and we all need help sometimes - so in this case I'm glad I could help, and anytime you need help in the future don't hesitate to ask.

when u wanna loose weight or gain weight diet is everything. b/c u wanna loose weight u need to eat less calories but keep your protein up. also almost as important as the eating you need to run everyday, and do other types of cardio like swimming, bikeing,or jogging. also dont take any creitine supplements while trying to loose weight and get defined because createin gives you excess water weight you dont want. good luck man

The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you're a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds.
