As many of you guys have probably seen from my log, my bench is stuck. It is in a serious plateau, so last night I looked through my old log to try to find a pattern. Here is what I found, when my bench really started to move up, I was doing squats in the morning.

So my workout looked like this:
Friday A.M.: ATG Squats
Friday P.M.: ME Bench

I was wondering if you guys think that squatting in the morning was actually helping my bench. I know a lot of people say that there is a crazy hormonal response when you squat, so I thought maybe this would help my bench. I know guys that do squats before certain workout and swear that this helps them. I was thinking of doing an experiment and just squatting very light in the morning on fridays.

Do you guys think there is any legitimacy behind the theory that squatting on the same day as benching can actually help make gains on the bench press??

the squatting thoery is proven that it has a positive repsonse to test production as well as making the rest of you lifts stronger as well.they work on the same pricipal as deadlifts which does the same thing.but if i remember correctly it has to be heavy 6-8 reps to have an affect not sure if doin light squats is gona have the same effect.

It sounds good in theory, but I haven't read any conclusive studies that state how long it takes for the increased hormone production to be the most beneficial. I guess though the best way to do is to try it for 3-4 wks and see how it goes. I'd be VERY interested in hearing how it works for you if you do it.

I always bench the day before I squat and wouldn't even try to bench on the same day after squatting because the squat tires out my shoulders and weakens my bench, however if I was bodybuilding it might work out as a good pre-exhaustion for the shoulders making your chest work more. Just a theory, no reason not to try it for a month or so and see what you think.

I am going to give this a try guys. I will do ATG Squats on Friday, the reason I think I can do these is because they are lagging way behind my competition depth squat. Therefore they do not stress my body out very much since I am used to having much heavier weights on my back. I will do them moderately heavy and keep the volume very low and see how this works. I will keep you guys updated if this does anything for me.

Good deal J! You are a smart guy so no doubt you'll find the way. New PR's will probably be on the horizon!
