Default Hello from Wisconsin - 05-03-2010, 06:24 PM

Hey guys..Newbie to the site. Just introducing myself. I'm 46 and still tossing the weights around in the gym and I'll never stop either,LOL.
Although I have had 2 r/c surgery's 1 right and now the left, but I'm not backing down.
Great site, lets eat!!

WELCOME !
SOMETIME I MIGHT INQUIRE ABOUT WHAT THOSE SURGERYS WERE ALL ABOUT. I AM RIGHT NOW HEALING THE RIGHT (NO SURGERY) BUT IF IT HAS TO HAPPEN I'D LIKE TO KNOW A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT.

Welcome. I've had two surgeries on my right shoulder, one labrum repair and one r/c repair and they cut off the tip of the clavicle, forgot what that is called.

Papaw --- after my labrum repair I hit a PR in competition six months after surgery with a 650 bench press in a single ply shirt. Several years later I had the second, bigger surgery and was back benching 500 raw in six months. If you need surgery, go to a sports medicine clinic / hospital. I did mine a Duke in Durhan NC, my surgeon used to do work on NFL players. He never said anything about me stopping lifting or changing what I do, it was all about repairing so that I could go back to doing what I do. He said he gave me the strongest repair that was possible and that after it healed, It would hold up to anything I wanted to do. During rehab, I did what I was told but did progress a little faster than what they were telling me, but I listened to my body. I kept working the good arm, started just a few days after surgery while in a sling, I don't believe your body will allow one side of your body to be far out of proportion in size or strength to the opposite side if both sides have good blood flow and nerve function, I read an article about it years ago, wish I still had it. Anyway, just find the right surgeon for you if you have to get it done and plan on 4 - 5 months before you will be able to train that arm the way you want.

THANKS NEAL, THAT'S GOOD INFORMATION. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO LIFT HEAVY, BUT I'M ON THE MEND RIGHT NOW. IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING BETTER, AND I'M MORE OR LESS BABYING MY SHOULDER. I'D LIKE TO DO THIS BODYBUILDING THING IN 2011 THEN GET THE REPAIR AND GO FROM THERE IF I CAN.
IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAD A GREAT DR. I'VE BEEN READING THE STAT'S YOU POST. SOMEDAY I'LL BE ABLE TO LIFT HEAVY AGAIN.

Sorry for my absence, I have a lot going on work wise!
When I tore my rt shoulder I tore one of the four small tendons that make up the rotator cuff. Easy fix and the therapy was about the same as the left. My strength came back quick. But now with the left shoulder surgery, I tore the whole tendon off the bone along with a partial tear of the upper bicep tendon.
Again the therapy was the same, just longer in week's , but now the strength is coming back slowly!
I am making sure i use a good slow tempo, no jerky movements, and I have put my ego aside [really hard to do even at 47 yrs old,LOL]

That is certainly understandable. Putting the ego aside that is. I had to learn the same thing as well after my shoulder surgery.
