Good to hear because I had planned on starting my diet 20 wks out. And I'll be competing in an untested show, but I'm not using. So....I want to be ultra shredded in sick fashion!

True. Natural shows are just about 100% conditioning.

You will pull that Pro Card on in. If you win the first show you can't compete in the others?

@Emeka- yeah you can.
@Kris- yes they are all about conditioning. I have seen guys way bigger get smoked because they weren't as cut as the smaller guy. I think that is dumb personally. It is a bodybuilding show not a swim meet!

Wait! So you think a guy that looks bigger should win over one that is a little smaller but way more conditioned? Am I understanding you correctly here?

I don't know about WAY more conditioned but it's definitely an opinion call. I've seen people with garbage builds and lopsided symmetry win shows just they were just more cut.

The conflict begins because it's not just the most conditioned guy who wins neither is it the biggest guy. It's the biggest and best conditioned that wins but some judges prefer one over the other. Then the chaos begins...

And even tho many people don't like Jay's physique. He's usually the biggest and one of the top conditioned on stage.

I think Jay's physique may be a little over the top, but I totally appreciate the work that went into it. One thing I love about powerlifting is, although there are 3 judges, most of the time, you made the lift or you didn't. It is not as subjective.

@Rick- yes! If someone has more muscle and is cut as heck, he should definitely win over someone who doesn't have as much muscle but is slightly more conditioned!

It's all about symmetry, size, and conditioning, but as Emeka said alot of judges prefer one over the other. Through experience I have seen natural bodybuilding shows take preference over competitors who had less muscle and more conditioning!

What I mean is in a competition if you have someone that looks soft but bigger muscles (Guy1) than dude in the same weight class that is shredded (Guy2), but still solidly muscle....I'd award it to the 2nd guy because of his conditioning and the fact he maintained as much lean mass as he could while cutting down. For example, they are in the same weight class, but 3-5% different in conditioning. Let's also assume perfect symmetry on both for the sake of conversation. I'd go with Guy 2...even though he looks a tad smaller. I realize this could all be lost in translation since we are dealing with actual subjects we can view....but hopefully what I said makes some kind of sense. And yes subjectivity is always a factor.

Guy 2 would take it because he's big, hard, and shredded. (no homo) Vs Guy 1 who is big, soft/watery, and defined.

The problem occurs when guy 1 is big, hard, and shredded vs guy 2 who is big, hard, and shredded. Then what? lol

Maybe this is the point where judges play politics and preference?

Makes perfect sense! What I was saying is if GUY1 is almost just as shredded as GUY2 but off maybe a percent of two and has more muscle he should win. If it is a close call on body fat- give it to the guy who has more muscle NOT the guy is smaller with a slightly less bodyfat percentage!
