Default Ricky's Road To Getting Cut - 07-23-2012, 09:26 PM

I started at 19% body fat on May 31st at 266 pounds.

I'm 6'1" tall.

So far, I haven't done any aerobics.

As far as weight lifting, I've been following HIT Training the Mike Mentzer's Way of working out once every 4-7 days.

Here are pictures of what's been going on the last two weeks.

Welcome aboard bro!

I have to ask though....how are you coming up with these BF percentages?

Thanks! I'm just using a pinch, body fat caliper taking one measurement at the hip and using the accumeasure extrapolated chart.

Since I'm only using one spot for measurement, I'm sure it's not precise but the main thing, for me, is that the measurement has been decreasing each week.

Fortunately, I have a dark spot on my waist which helps me measure the exact same spot each week.

I tried to measure at multiple spots but I can never seem to find the same spot each week or either can't get a good grip.

Already making progress.

question though.... while your cutting and not doing cardio yet what made you want to do HIT training.

The main two reasons I decided to do HIT are:

First, I have a 4 year old son and a new born so I donít have time to get in the gym often and this HIT program only requires about twice a week for 20 minutes. I usually go to Gold's Gym around 9 or 10 pm once my wife and sons are sleep.

Second, I wanted to put on some more muscle, if possible and I liked the science behind HIT the Mike Mentzer way. So far, my chest and quads measure bigger than theyíve ever been. Plus, more muscle means higher resting metabolic rate.

Iím actually trying to see how lean I can get without aerobics. I hate running because I start losing muscle when I do it.

When I was 23 I got down to 9% without aerobics, but Iím 28 now, so weíll see. Iíll keep updating this journal.

If the science is right, I feel like all I need is a calorie deficit and to maintain my muscle to lose fat consistently. I just may lose it slower than someone who does some type of aerobics.

What are your thoughts?

Just wondering. The HIT program is a tried and true program..... Stay with it and lets see where you go from here. I've done HIT before and got good results.

Thanks! As far as progress is concerned, my main concern is that my skin fold measurement has been decreasing each week.

However, I would definitely like to get a more precise body fat reading. I just need to find someone who has a precise way of doing it.

Maybe, for now, I'll take my measurement at a spot further back which would have made that first measurement in my pics about 20% body fat.

I must say that my bod does retain a lot more water than most people which is why I used to have problems with high blood pressure.

Thanks for your feedback. You didn't dog me, lol. I'm not sensitive. The truth helps.

Default Progress Update - 07-25-2012, 07:25 AM

Notes:
- I started taking Animal M-Stak on Friday July 20, 2012.
- I started taking Raspberry Ketones on Saturday July 21, 2012 based on Dr. Ozís recommendation. I just want to see if it works at all.
- I also started cycling my calories according to the Spike 84 diet. I do 3 days of calories at my RMR, 3 days 500 calories below my RMR and one day of about 75% higher than my RMR to keep my metabolism from slowing down.

At first I was just doing 6 days of 20% less calories than my maintenance calories which equaled to 2440 calories a day and one day at my maintenance calories of 3047.

I've only worked out one day since my last progress picture.

I have Legs and Abs to do tonight.

I still haven't done any aerobics.

Progress since July 18, 2012:

- I lost 1Ē off my waist
- I gained 0.25Ē on my thigh.
- I lost 1.6 lbs of overall weight from 258.4 to 256.8
- I lost 1% body fat.

I took progress pics today as well as measurements.

I'm 254.8 so I lost about 2 lbs and my body fat caliper measurement has decreased by 2 mm. According to the caliper, I'm about 15.95% body fat now. I was 17.67% last week.

Once a week, I double my calories so on Saturday, I ate 5200 calories, a lot of it was Bacardi Rum for my birthday outing. I lost fat by the next day. That once a week calorie spike has been revving my metabolism back up every time.

Thanks. And my back, fat roll has almost disappeared which I'm also very happy about. Lol

I didn't realize how fat I was until started taking all these pics and measurements.

It looks like I have another 6 weeks before I get down to my goal of about 10% body fat.

Looking good so far dude! Another way you can do the BF% measurement (if you have a body tape measure) is Height vs Neck vs Waist.

The one I use is here. Just click the BF% tab to put in your measurements.

I think Rcarp said this before about where your BF was at. I think you are caring a little more around than you think.

When your at 10% a good way to judge is you will start to see abs at about 12 % and veins will start coming out in your lower abs the lower bodyfat you are at.

Don't let that right now be your judge. Go off of how you feel, and don't let it slow you down. What I'm saying is just don't focus right now on the % stuff. Go off of what you look like.

True bodyfat % test are done in water tanks and other more professional arenas.

What MAC said is true.

The Army uses the tape test to get a 'ballpark' average on the fly.

You already know your HT but break down into inches: for you it would be 73"

The Neck and Waist can be tricky if doing solo.

the tape must be paralel to the ground as it wraps around you.

the chin must be level and head straight.

the tape around the waist at your naval (bellybutton).

the tape should be snug but not draw inward....in other words don't try to make the measurement smaller by forcing the tape to squeze around you.

Hmmm...perhaps I should take pics of right and worng some time to shoe people....LOL
