Default Staying Lean during the Holidays! - 10-11-2011, 09:40 AM

Fat fest simply cannot happen this year for our IPYU forum members. Seriously.

We have got to combine efforts on varying plans of action to stay lean this year.

I didn't say we shouldn't eat and be merry, but we got to get creative here on what to do to not go overboard.

I will admit. I have a tendency to say "Well, I will just diet extra hard come contest time." and eat some serious food. Good food for bodybuilding, but sometimes I need to say "Is it really worth the protein getting a chicken burrito at Taco Bell, or can't I just wait till I get home in 15 minutes and cook some leaner protein?"
Been there....... you know - eating crap for the sake of not missing a meal and trying to force protein??????
My wife goes dang gangbusters on pies, cookies, cakes, and all kind of stuff during the holidays. It is like a communist agenda to get me fat.
I walk into the kitchen and see Pumpkin bread, and it is like I hear it saying
"RESISTANCE IS FUTILE"

Last winter I was able to keep alot of weight off and fight the beast of fat away by doing alot of cardio and making good attempts to dieting during the week and have cheat meals on the weekends. It worked well but really.....NOT WELL ENOUGH.
WHY? I am glad you asked. Because my cheat meals on the weekends were more like a 48 hour trip to Sizzlers all you can eat buffet.
  • Taco Bell - (why does it have to be so cheap and delicious. Who gives a crap if its 10% beef? LOL)
  • Cereal- (my arch nemesis)
  • Pasta- (neverending pasta bowl at Olive Garden was a worthy adversary)
  • Chinese Buffets (like Disney World to me)

So the thread begins here:
WHAT IS YOUR PLAN OF ACTION TO STAY LEAN THIS WINTER?

I'm winging it and hoping that I'll behave. I'm going to try to stick with mostly meat and small portions of dessert. I don't care for stuffing anyways, so I'm good there. I will have sweet potatoes which I prefer over stuffing or white potatoes....so that can help a bit. But yes, it's going to be tough!!!

Taco Bell - I like it but very rarely eat it
Cereal - Cap'n Crunch!!! Woot!!! LOL, but it doesn't get brought in the house often so I'm usually good.
Pasta - Don't eat much of it myself except lasagne about once every other month.
Chinese Buffets - I actually do pretty good here. I avoid fried stuff and look for green veggies and meat.

I'm wit Rick. I've dieted thru the holidays and it sucked but for these holidays i will be winging it. My weakness is sweets and milk, so i will dodging the sweet potato pies that will be tossed at me.

I plan on doing a lot of HIIT, lol

I have never had a problem with weight gain over thanksfiving and Christams, its halloween that kills me. Those dang little mellowcreme pumkins are just so yummy with my am coffee. And they start putting them on the shelves in September!!! So this is my downfall, arch nemesis, loose all will power sort of treat. I even make rice crispie treats with them in it! It's really more of an addiction that I am glad is only once a year, but still!!
Im with Rick, I dislike stuffing and mashed potatoes so if i indulge it will be sweet potatoes, oh yummy with butter brown sugar and marshmellows on top and then the sweet potato pies, yummy.
I really just paln to stick to the semi-pre show diet ive been on for a while now. I also work all the holidays so that helps.
Good luck to everyone tho.

I almost always plump up during the holidays but it's fine because I'm bulking anyways. I get fat and strong as hell, its fun till it's time to cut then I always regret it

How do you people not like stuffing!!!! I'd live off it if I could!!

As for the holidays/ food... Foods not food anymore. Taste no longer matters. All that matters is: 90g Carbs 60g Protein. Fruit, Veggies, Water.

my Wifey makes fun of me because she'll ask me what I want to eat and ill say "90g Carbs 60g Protein." lolol. Im surprised she even still bothers to ask

Ha. I do the same thing when I am dieting.
She will say "What do you want for dinner?" I just say I want lean protein, no fat, and clean carbs/ or stemaed veggies.

Cereal has been a weak point for me. Man I love me some raisan bran all soggy and thick.
I know we have some serious cereal lovers out there so I will stop there!
But my main problem is overeating clean foods.
I will just eat and eata and eat and eat.
Portion control is where I need to behave!

I was raised on cereal so I know what ya mean Tim! Lately I've been cheating on my breakfast carbs and I eat Quaker Oats Oatmeal Squares Cereal. ---> http://caloriecount.about.com/calori...-squares-i8214 <---

Just goes down easier for me

I don't feel so bad about the diet now. I do have weak points (peanut butter and honey). I'm just hoping and praying I don't go on the same diet I did last year.... hospital food. lol
Johnbeef I agree with you, I could live off of dressing.
My favorite breakfast food is oatmeal believe it or not. If I can't get that eggs anyway you can fix them.

As some of us at my office say...

Sometimes you gotta just push away... (meaning push the chair away from the table)

yeah...halloween hits me too!! My son comes home with his trick or treat bag...and you know... EVERY good parent needs to inspect the candy...so, I am a CAREFUL inspector.
That can lead to inspections late at night too. You know...just to make sure its still okay. Then everyone in the office has to bring in the leftover candy too. I could die a happy man with a handful of whoppers in my mouth.

Tim..I sometimes get like you. I cant figure out exactly what size is what amount and dont know if I am taking in too much.

As for the other list..

Taco Bell-- Prefer Tijuana Flats
Cereal--coccoa pebbles....with vanilla soy milk... i'm drooling right now
Pasta--Off and on...my biggest carbs are breads
Chinese Buffett--YOU BEN HERE 4OWR MUS REAVE! Then when I roll myself to the car, I regret everything I ate!

whoever brought up sushi is a bad person... lol. The GF and I were addicted for a while. Mmmm Unagi...

and if you are worried about all the rice, perhaps a switch to sashimi, that way you control the rice you eat with each piece. It does get expensive though. mmmm
