Thumbs up My Cardio - 03-11-2014, 12:15 PM

Been quite some time since I've been on...wanted to share my Cardio workout... I started HATING cardio, but its has grown on me.
I've run a few 5k's and done 2 triathlons... but in no way am an endurance athlete.

Here is my workout that anyone can do.
Total is between 3.5-4 miles.
Start with slow controlled 1 mile run.
After that run, I do sprint intervals for 1.5-2 miles. Basically I run from light pole to light pole in my neighborhood...or any street that has them. I sprint to the 1st light pole, then walk to the next pole. Sprint from that pole to the next, then walk... I do that for 2 miles. If I need to slow my sprint between light poles, I do so... but I take a mental note of where I slowed. The next time I go out, I make it a point to not slow before that point. If I go one pole past, great--2--even better. The point is to always impove. The last mile is broken up into a finishing 1/2-3/4 mile slow jog to get my legs back and my lungs and heart into that final elevated rate. I cool down with a 1/2-1/4 mile walk which I use to loosen my quads, hamstrings, calves, and to make sure I'm not going to tighten up. When I hit my driveway I do a good 5-10 min stretch session. Followed by a protein shake and hot shower, mixed with an icey dunk in my bathtub to really calm my muscles.

Enjoy.

Nice cardio workout! I love running AND lifting! Lately I have been added a weighted ruck to my runs.
