Default I am transforming my diet/lifestyle due to.... - 03-14-2013, 04:18 PM

Due to 2 shows I've watched recently. I NEVER, and I mean NEVER EVER thought I'd be swinging the direction I am in the way of diet. I LOVE MEAT....LOL! Seriously you won't find anyone that was a bigger milk drinker (except when cutting seriously) or a bigger steak, burger, rib, etc lover. But these have changed my thinking! And I think it will you too IF you truly pay attention when viewing these...if you decide to. I am not a t-totaler, but I'm eating MUCH healthier!

Hungry For Change is mostly based on testimonials and from these people, they also share what they have learned. It was the more entertaining of the two and maybe a little more ispirational. You'll see transformations and changes to people that had health issues. Great program!!!

The other program called "Forks Over Knives" is not as entertaining, and requires full attention. While it lacks flare...it makes up with factual statistics that floored me! Trust me here....I still can't get over what I've learned! It's very believable!

I will say with confidence that these are not a gimmick and not a fad. It tells you how our bodies are designed and why so many of our health issues are caused by today's foods. The cool side benefit is fat loss! I'm going to post some proof in upcoming posts!

We have never felt better. I am delighted with the increased energy, mental capacity and stamina that I have. I became 45 pounds lighter within 4 months and have maintained my new weight all this time. While I’m still lifting weights regularly, I have also become a runner and now average running 12-15 miles a week. This is not bad for an over 50-year-old football lineman! Most importantly, through plant-based eating and exercise, my blood pressure and cholesterol have reached normal. In 2010, a colonoscopy found precancerous polyps, which prompted a return test in the fall 2012. I went for the test, and to my surprise I had a fully healthy colon! Forks Over Knives has changed my life and I plan to live this way for the rest of my years. Thank you!

I do realize this type of post may not be well received in our little community here, but I love trying things like this and I'm willing to see if I can be as strong as I once was without all the stuff I used to consume.

Rick, you please me. The thing I respect the most, is when others break the typical 'Bodybuilding' Diet, and go down a different avenue.

If we are talking Vegan diets, the only issues I have are the lack of minerals like, Choline, vitamin b12, vitamin D (during winter and modern lifestyle), iron and zinc.

How much of an impact this will have, who knows? But the beauty in this day and age, is we have a supplement for everything.

I wish more people would experiment and come away from the chicken breast and brown rice diet. For me, I have found great success with high fat low carb, but I can imagine some of the competitive bodybuilders on here quietly laughing at me. But! I never get hypoglycemia, and It's so easy to stay lean.

I tend to do it mac style and 'Carb night' So I do have carbs, but the ones I do eat are eaten post workout and are used and not stored.

But enough about me.....

Finding a diet, that you grow affection for is truly amazing, your more likely to stick to it, and chances are, if you like it, and it makes you feel good, your body will thank you, and put an extra couple of years on the end of your life. Because if you like it, your body likes it too. (Not talking doughnuts or iifym however..)

There's more to life than macros and calories. And a hell of a lot more to life than muscle. And the one size fits all flex diet isn't so great. Brown rice? Very anti-nutrient dence! Chicken breast? 'The rice cakes of the protein world' Little to no micro-nutrients compared with other foods and not much to offer over all. Peanut butter? Very high in PUFA's, and n6 fatty acids.

A vegan could quite happily get some quality protein sources via hemp, seaweed, and a through combination of vegetable sources. Oats arn't bad for protein either!

I can believe that the diets you have highlighted Rick are not gimmicks purely because there is nothing more the human body can possibly need other than good solid natural food. And perhaps supplement the missing bits. (Everyone should mega dose with the B's)

I appreciate the support! As I said I don't think most all here would be on board and may even roll their eyes. But it's all good! I consider this playing! LOL!

If my strength does reach where I was a few months ago...I do believe that some myths are dispelled. We'll see how this pans out!

FTW, my staple meal is usually something like this:
Spinach
Lettuce mix
Tomato
Carrot
Radishes
Sunflower seeds
1/4 cup of raw oatmeal (old fashioned oats)
And a Vinaigrette type dressing.

The oats and sunflower seeds help keep you full longer. And I NEVER get that bloated lethargic feeling like I do after eating a common meal with processed carbs.

Looks solid to me. Spinach is a favorite of mine, it's a powerhouse of nutrients. I don't eat it as often as I should to be fair.

I'd be inclined to chuck in some avocado, and have a handful of cashews on the side. Also, dessicated coconut blended up makes a fine buttery like, coconutty, tasty substance! Great to chuck into a smoothie or just spoon it in!

Much to play with Rick, I'll be following this Thread daily to see how you get on, and hopefully along the way, wake people up a bit, to the whole world of food we have out there!

I'll definitely be following this rick and I also want you to call me and talk about it. Where my diet has alot of fat in it and alot of fiber because I have been eating my weight in spinach lately and healthy fatty oil dressings I tend to eat more of the spinach than I do the meat. It feels me up better. where I believe that one carb nite comes into play is it gives me something to look forward to. I know there are people out there that will make themselves eat healthy all the time but some things I just like to eat. But I think this is a great plan you have found. I'm just leary of changing anything right now since I've been on a roll and loosing the most weight I've ever lost and not loosing strength along with it. But that is for me.

But one thing runs true on both type of diets. In terms of fats we both for the most part are making sure we are eating Health fats and plenty of Fiber. Hell, most of the health problems we have now can be solved just by adding the proper fiber back into the diet. But I'm sure out definition of health fats differ a little. I'm seeing saturated fat as a building block now and an energy source compared to using carbs. I've learned that using fats as energy uses my fat reserves to burn up and they burn up alot I might add.

But Like I said I will be following this. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys! Mac it's a little deeper than just eating more fiber (speaking of the documentaries I've mentioned above). Your jaw will drop or you'll roll your eyes if you watch Forks Over Knives. But to me, the statistics and information is VERY convincing. Please view it if you can. It's on Netflix and so is Hungry For Change.

Good but understand I'm only partially into this. I'll say 60% or better. There are some days I am at 100% but not always. Gradually getting into it and I have to admit I love it!

There's sure to be good days and bad days. Eventually you'll get to a point where you won't recognise yourself.

Are you supplementing with anything? Extra B's etc.

I don't mean good days and bad days. I mean I'm giving percentages on how raw I eat in the average. And yes, I am supplementing AA EFX's Karbolyn and Test Charge. Vitamin B's with my multi that I take. I am a believer in B's! Love how they make me feel!
