Default IPYU Matt's Pink Magic Log - 08-09-2010, 02:05 PM

Alright guys, I promised you all I'd start a log on Pink magic so here we go...

First some info..

Matt
26 years old
6'1
275 Pounds (down from 325lbs a month and a 1/2 ago)

Current Supplements

SuperPump 250/Jack3d/N.O. Shotgun (cycle to stave off resistance)
O.N 100% Gold Standard Whey (cake batter at the moment)
Gaspari Anavite MV
Scifit Kre-Alkalyn

Basically, 8 years ago I played baseball and football and continued baseball up until I was about 21. The years took their toll on me. Ended up with some knee issues and a torn labrum in my right shoulder. 3 years ago I finally went under the knife and had it repaired. LOT of recovery. Constant rehab, and the complete loss of my right arm for about 2-3 mos due to the reconstruction. Needless to say it left me significantly weaker in the upper body area. My legs are still tree trunks so right now I'm only focusing on upper body. I also am running cardio EVERY day including weight days as I'm trying to lose this weight so I'll take the slower muscle growth as a trade off. So here's my first day.

Cardio

20min HIIT on elliptical
(8 resist, 8 incline-140 strides per min for 30 sec, then 260 strides per min for 30 sec with a 3min warm up and cool down)

Weights

Machine Chest Press
165x10 x2
138x10 x2

Dumbbell Lateral Raise
30lbx10 x2
25lbx10 x2

One Arm Row
35lbx10 x2

Bar Military Press
50lbx10 x2

Dumbbell Incline Bench Press
30lbx10 x2

(Right around here is when I'm reasoning that maybe staying fat is better )

Dumbbell Flye
25lbx10 x2

Machine Chest Flye
120lbx10 x2

Bar Upright Row
50lbx10 x2

So that's day one..Typically I work out 6 days a week and do weight 4 days a week. Obviously my upper body can use some work so I'll continue to target that until I can hold my own a lil better.

Pink Magic day 1-Obviously not much lol..and they said it was "magic"

Damn Matt! That's a serious drop in 1-1/2 months. Was that partly due to you being ill?

Looking forward to the log! Hammer time!

Rick,

Cake batter is actually really good, tastes more like a sugar cookie, but if you mix half and half with chocolate, add some peanut butter...good stuff!

Yeah I had a NASTY case of strep..racked me for a week.

Recarp,

Yup, I figure you need a sense of humor to get through life with your head still intact

Day 2

Alright guys, Wednesday is my off day so I wanted to update you with yesterday's workout. Once again it's mostly an upper body routine. Here ya go.

Cardio

20min HIIT on elliptical
(8 resist, 8 incline-140 strides per min for 30 sec, then 260 strides per min for 30 sec with a 3min warm up and cool down)

Weights

Machine Biceps Curl
70lbx10 x2

Concentration Dumbbell Curl
30lbx10 x2

Standing Biceps Curl
50lbx10 x2

Wrist Curl
40lbx10 x2

Pushup
10 pushups x 3 (never been strongsuit..lol)

Ab Crunch Machine
70lbx10 x2
60lbx10

Machine Leg Extension
135lbx10 x3

We'll see if there were any improvements as tomorrow will be my second round of the week. Kris asked about my diet...

Obviously I'm still trying to lose weight so I will take the decreased muscle growth in favor of loss (I'm down to about 273-4, down about 2lb from my first log day)
I'll give you an example of a normal meal day for me

Wake up
-Handfull of almonds
-Pre-Workout

Breakfast
-Typically just protein shake with skim milk & piece of fruit

Lunch
-Varies, but is usually a Peanut Butter Sandwich on wheat
-cup of mixed berries
-serving of Cheez-Its (lol..I love them)

Dinner
-10-13oz steak/chicken breast
-starch (brown rice, whole wheat pasta, potato
-Veggie

After dinner usually doesn't happen but if it does I rock one of those skinny cow ice creams lol

Pink Magic Effects

First off, this stuff gives you some odd energy. I accidentally took it too late and WOW..it's a goofy kind of energy (and I take 3 scoops of SP250)..not jittery..just makes you feel kinda silly. Improved mood..appetite suppression..and my recovery seems better, I'm not nearly as sore. So far I have some decent plus's coming from PM..we'll see if it enhances in the strength column!

Matt, good job doing the work, but here's my 2 cents. You will burn more calories and overall benefit greater strength-wise from doing some type of row movements. Compound movements are always king. I almost never do isolation curls of any kind....only if I have extra time.

Row movements as in how? I'm aware of the rowing machine..but is there anything additional to that?

Seated cable rows, bent-over BB rows, one arm DB rows....etc. It still hits the bicep, but also a lot of other muscles so much better all the way around imo.

Big Guys like me and you will benefit more from Compound movements. '

In other words we will burn more calories doing exercises that use multiple muscles rather than isolated one. You will always do better with barbell and Dumbell work vs Machines. That is of course if you have that available.

Your going to be also best burning fat doing your cardio after you do weights as at that time you are in a glycogen depleted state and you burn more fat calories.

Call me or Rick if you have any questions.

Day 3

Alright guys, day 3 of working with the Pink Magic, and some of the results (in my opinion are starting to show..but first here are the numbers

Machine Chest Press
170x10 x3 (Wanting to do straigh bar bench press but right now spotters are hard to come by)

Dumbbell Lateral Raise
25lbx10 x2
25lbx10 x2 (a little down from the other day, but I've been doing yoga as well and for some reason this excercise was NOT working for me!)

One Arm Row
50lbx10 x2 (noticable improvement here! 35lbs last go around)

Bar Military Press
60lbx10 x2 (another improvement from 50lbs)

Dumbbell Incline Bench Press
35lbx10 x2 (and another....)

Machine Chest Flye
135lbx10 x2 (and another...)

Cable Seated High Row
130lbx10 x2

Bar Upright Row
80lbx10 x2 (30lb increase)

Cardio

20 minutes elliptical..swapped HIIT for higher incline and resistance..burned about 380 cal
(did cardio AFTER muscles..thanks Mac & Rick for the suggestions with the routine)

As you can see some improvements were def made this go around. I've been doing most of these excercises for about 2 weeks and haven't come close to an improvement like this. Obviously it's not ALL the Pink Magic, that would be impossible..but I do feel a diff in my strength and endurance..My focus is better and an overall better mood (except for the occasional temper flare up)

There ya go!

Matt

Someone might be able to give you more info on the subject, but I've heard that upright rows can cause shoulder issues and I know you had one in the past. Again, I'm not sure if there is any truth to this, but I guess anything could cause issues if done improperly. I still do them anyway haha. Keep up the good work.
