lol, so many ways to go at this topic and soooo many theroies out there. I've had my shared of failed attempts and i've learned from them. Now i just have to figure out how to make this impactful to help someone else

I guess ill start with the biggest myth about drying out...

The less water i drink the drier i will get

Wrong. Correction the less water you drink the flatter you will look as well as trigger a hormone in your body called aldosterone.

Aldosterone is nothing you want to wake up. It helps regulate sodium and potassium in the body. So when your body thinks it's dehydrating aldosterone wakes up and begins to conserve fluid and sodium. Yes, the two things that you have probably cut. And for those of us with high blood pressure this process increases your blood pressure as well.

I'll bust a few myths a little later and hopefully help you realize the truth about drying out...

Right now - the only drying out I am doing is from the rain. It has been dumping here off and on for the last 3 hours.

Here's a FACT. Your body is made up of 45 -75 percent water. The less fat the less water.

If you get busy during your prep and get that BF under 5 percent, you drying out becomes a breeze since you wont be holding much water anyway. No last minute trickery. You've heard it over and over and it's true.

If your bodyfat is in check and you are already lean, some simple diuretic solutions will help you come in dry as a 2 day old bone! But you MUST work hard and stay commited to your prep. Many people use the excuse "I was holding water" but really that person just wasn't lean enough.

Rant over.

The week of your show you want to increase your water by about 50-75 percent. Its simple, the more you drink, the more you pee. But most people seem to think the more you drink the more you hold and thats not true. Drink about 2 or 3 bottle water with your dinner and count how many time you get up to pee in the middle of the night,

Drinking this higher amount of water will make you body begin to "flush" making you have to go more than usual. As the days go on begin to reduce your intake by 8-16 ounces per day. As your body is still in flush mode.

Durnig the last 2 or 3 days judge your water intake by how you look during you posing sessions. Consdiering your carbs are on track (thats another thread) you want to look hard and full. If you are looking flat and your muscles are literally soft to the touch you need to drink more water and pose.

In the final days the mirror will tell you what direction you need to head in.

Next up, using diuretics!

Does this hold True for women too? This is very interesting. As I just finished my first show I had to take several water pills. Because I retain fluids anyway very easily. I kept drinking tho the day before my show I had 3/4 gallon spring water. Then sipped the day of show. I'm not sure if I came in dry or not. But as I experience the day after my show my skin feels very dry and I'm holding water. Also I can drink 24 ounces of
Coffee or a protein shake before bed and not get up once to use the rest room. I'd be interested of this is te same for figure competitions too.

i believe this to hold true for women as well. This major problem that most women face is being lean enough. If you are not lean, you won't look dry no matter how many diuretics you take or water that you don't drink.

It's very hard to tell leanness from pics but your protocol/approach is very sound. I'm not sure if you did, but when using diuretics you MUST continue to use them after the show and begin to taper off to help fight the rebound effect.

Once you force your body in one direction, it fights hard to balance out by pulling in the opposite direction. So once you dry out your body will fight and pull hard to rehydrate. Often over doing it.

My first hand recommendations:

MHP Xpel

Dymatize Dyma-Retic

Both super cheap thanks to IPYU!

Where we're you a few days ago with this tidbit of info. My eyes are swollen since I've been done with the show. Lol I'm miserable. So now what? I was hoping it would regulate itself. Now I'm worried. How do people do back to back shows. Ways to hard.

Haha, i was too. Super tight, could barely move. Use this list to help:

1. Drink more. The more you drink to more you your body will flush because it is getting a sufficient amount of fluid.

2. Cardio. Cardio will get that water moving

3. Lower sodium intake slightly. Prolly by 1 gram

4. Rest amd sleep with your feet elevated. Blood circulation is not the best in your lower body particually below your knees. Elevation will help get that water moving.

5. Get some support. Vit C, Ginger Root Extract, Uva Ursa, Dandelion Root extract, etc. Take as recommended.

Hope this helps

Haha! Yeah girl you are having the full rebound effect. All the tips will help and eventually, usually after about 2 or 3 weeks, your body will begin to regulate itself and things will return to normal. Just gotta fight it out.

After your next show you should slowly reintroduce sodium, water, and carbs back into your diet. That will help tremendously.

Agreed!! Thank you emeka for your knowledge and help. For us first timers it means a lot that you do share so much. Some bodybuilders male and female aren't as willing. It's very appreciated.
