Default Is coffee okay? - 06-07-2012, 11:15 AM

I usually try to keep my coffee intake to my saturday morning/ end of week treat with my donut. But, aside from obvious dehydration, is there any proof one way or the other as far is it is bad, or good for you? My mother is always calling me with new health food articles, one week it's bad, the next its good. Any ideas?

Oh, and the main reason this came to mind is I saw a guy in the gym this morning, real early, drinking a gas station coffee during his workout! I think i'd rather be hydrated than awake at that point!

I drink coffee up to about two weeks out from a show. Only cause I cut sweetners do I stop. I do know men the day of a show drink a cup early in the am because it's a natural diuretic. I only drink decaf as my preworkouts have plenty of caffeine in them to keep me going thought the 1.5 hrs grind in the gym. Just my opinion. Hope it helps.

There should be no problem with drinking coffee as long as you don't excessively overuse it.

I don't drink coffee straight out-right. Instead, it is part of a recipe I use for my 2nd meal on workout days and my 1st and meal on Rest day. I use coffee only for it's caffeine factor to rev up the metabolism.....nothing more.....for weight loss.

I've done this to Jacent, I've pre made vanilla protein powder into a thin liquid and used as a creamer and poured into coffee when I'm not Hungry for a meal. I don't feel as bad missing a Meal when it's flavored with protein. I've also used
Instant Coffee in my protein shakes

One thing I've been told is that caffeine stimulates your adrenaline. So if you hammer on it in the a.m. and don't work out until the p.m....your workout may suffer because you may have used up your adrenaline stores. I have not researched to see how long it takes for adrenaline to replenish, but I have noticed on days that I limited my early a.m. intake to 1 cup that if I have more right before my workout and/or use a preworkout with caffeine...that I seem to do better. But aside from what you stated on dehydration, there really isn't any major downsides imho.

As long as you are still drinking at least 1/2 gallon (I drink at least 1 Gallon) of water per day....straight water or with some non-calorie flavoring, then you should not have much of a dehydrated side-effect. 1/2 Gallon = the doctor "recommended" 8 glasses of water per day .... eight, eight ounces equals one-half gallon.

AGREED. I don't know what I would do without my coffee. I'm back to not taking pre workout drinks because I drink enough coffee before I workout to deal me a good pre workout to begin with

as long as your feeling it in the gym, and still making steady progress then its all fine. ive never known anybody to suddenly stop making progress over a few cups of coffee. if its someting you enjoy and its not affecting you, then it makes no sence to drop it, bodybuilding is a lifestyle after all and not prescribed medicene.

Have you looked at the fat calories in 2 tbsp of PB? Skip that and watch it help your weight loss.

Agreed on the something you enjoy. So much with this sport of what we "enjoy" is forbidden. Enjoy what isn't!!!

Mine too!!! I use that same recipe for my 9 am meal. I look forward to that shake. Although I'm allowed 1Tbl. And if out of PB it's olive oil or macadamia oil.

It's a meal plan from Beverly international. I pretty much follow the figure lean diet year round. Along with that shake I eat half a grapefruit. It's my most loved meal of the day!!!

I take 2 cups of black coffee everyday on an average, during office hours. No coffee on weekend. I am not experiencing any problem to be honest.

Here's my question, is it Okay to drink coffee and take a thermogenic in the morning at the same time? Such as a fat burner, ect. Or is it too much caffeine.
