Default Servings of Protein Shakes you Take a day - 02-08-2011, 09:54 PM

Wanted to see how many shakes some of you guys drink in a day. I was looking over my bottle today and it recommends 2 scoops 3 times a day for 6 weeks. This seems like a bit much to me considering what else I'm already eating + a mean replacement bar. What do you guys think?

It's really based on your weight and a majority of your protein should be through food. I drink one scoop in the morning and two after my workout.

2 shakes a day most days and sometimes only one. As Troy said, it's best to get most through real food.

I'm at two shakes. A gainer serving for meal3 and two scoops whey postworkout.

I wouldn't go too high. At one point I wasn't even using many shakes and my dr said my kidney numbers were high from all the protien.

I'm between 0-3 scoops, average 1.25 a day I'd say. If I don't work out for the day I won't always have a shake. If I do workout I will always have a shake afterwards, and some days I will have a shake with breakfast. For example today I had to be out early so I made a quick breakfast, 1 packet instant oatmeal, 3/4 scoop whey, 1/2 scoop casein w/ 1% milk.
I do like the ease and convenience of shakes, but I also think it's a good idea to get the majority of protein from real food.

ON Strawberry Whey makes me think I should have 5 shakes a day though, that stuff is tasty!!

Oh I love ON strawberry flavor.

Get more for your money by doing pre workout and post workout. That way your are getting solid amounts of protein in before your workout to help from muscle waste and then post workout for muscle recovery.

Food is always the best source.

Before AND after shakes? my creatine says take on an empty stomach 30 min before work out.. so how does that go into play?

Also, my creatine doesn't say to take any on rest/ off days.. should I be? Yes, I get some from my protein shakes, but wasnt too sure. Ive had some before that says take when you wake up on off days.

It's funny that most NO and creatine supplements have those instructions when people are trying to eat.

The easy way around most of this is to take it first thing on waking up. Then prepare your meal as planned. most of the time by the time you have your meal fixed and ready to eat your body has already gone into digestive mode especially if you have just woken up and has already started to process what you have taken. Eating on top of it should not effect it.

I would rather get a decent meal in me than more concerned about the supplement

I thought the strawberry and chocolate were both 77 servings? I know the caramel toffee fudge is 71 though. They are trying to swindle us!

Anyway...

If I take a N.O. Pre I normally won't eat right before, when I was taking creatine mono I remember trying to have a simple carb with it, to help absorption. Atleast I think that's what I was doing.

Bingo.

-beef I still take my creatine on off days. Keep the muscles saturated in it when it truely matters, when they are resting-repairing and growing

I usually use 2 shakes a day outside of my whole food meals. One of the two is most always right before I go to bed and I sometimes add in a little cottage cheese with it for its slow digesting properties.

I try to keep it down to a minimum of 2 shakes a day. I always have a post workout shake of 50grams and occasionally i have a casein shake if i'm all out of greek yogurt or cottage cheese.
