Powerlifting & StrengthThe strongest of the strong discussing strength techniques and powerlifting tips. If you want strength over size, this forum is for you.
I love deadlifts.
Nothing packs on more back mass than deadlifts.
I have to admit though sometimes I prefer to do different variations of deads rather than regular ones.
When I competed in powerlifting that is what made me a good deadlifter was never doing heavy regular deadlifts.
You probably read that and are thinking "WTH!"
I worked on speed deadlifts doing 10 x 1 with 30 seconds rest at about 60%.
I maxed out on all types of different deads trying to get a new PR every week.
Reverse band deads, stiff-legged deads, stiff-legged deads on a block, regular deads on a block, and rack pulls at assorted levels.
I also did heavy friggin good mornings!
Unfortunately I was deadlifting one day and tried to pull 655 (regular) with the hexagon type shaped plates and the bar was quite straight and hurt my back to where deadlifting was never the same. Needless to say I could deadlift heavy anymore.
My favorite deadlift now is a machine deadlift or a hex bar/ shrug bar deadlift which I think is a more natural movement. I am also a stiff-legged deadlift fanatic.
Miss deadlifting heavy though. Nothing quite like it. I miss competing in powerlifting. No tan, oil, diet, judging of your body- just is the lift good or not!!!
I remember deadlifting so heavy one day and this chick was standing right in front of me watching. Right in front of me. As soon as I stood up with the weight blood started pouring out of my nose. Freaked her the heck out! LOL
Do you do deads?
What dead routine are you doing?
Ever do romanian deadlifts? What do you think about those??
What good deadlift story do you have??
<3 deadlifting.
I don't really have a set routine, I just start up and normally can feel out which direction I'm going to go. (normally singles, maybe sets of 5, or lately trying super high reps 25+ damn Mek and bigmix got me started)
I don't vary style much, I'll mix grips around. Romanians are pretty nice but I feel much more hamstring work with stiff legg deads...so I use them much more frequently.
I don't really have any stories. Deadlifting with my little brother is always a story, kid is a deadlifting maniac. Scares our entire gym everytime he's there...hard to keep up with the little a hole
Has become one of my favorite lifts for sure...no stories YET....

I love Deads. Just brute strength. IMO the best movement for over all power.
my wife love them too, even after dropping 315 on her shin from a hair short of lock out... man it looked like it hurt, We did a meet a few weeks later. What an animal!
