Hey whats up guys,
I just got a 80lb Everlast Punching Bag.
I need some tips on how to train with it well. Should I pretty much just shadow box with itor are thier some technique drills I should try.
I'm really only trying to get a good work out and mix in the heavy bag on cardio days/off days from lifting.

if you just shadow with it the workout wont be as good and you wont gain any punching strength. you might want to practice your punches first for a bit so when you really get into it you dont break your hands or wrists.after that move around the bag doing the different punches, high and low combinations before you know it youll be getting a good sweat and a hell of a workout.id say start off with 15 or so minutes until you get the hang of it then go to half hour or so. you should definitly feel it the next day in a good way. just make sure you practice slow at first so you dont do any damage.

Here are a few things I like to do.
I use a pair of 16oz. gloves, with wrist and hand wraps. Im a lefty (most of the time) so I put a small sponge in my left hand and wrap it tight. That along with the gloves saves my hands. I try to always hit the bag as it is moving away.
Stay up on the balls of your feet (this is hard and a workout in itself) dance around and beat the crap out of the bag.
If you are just working out put on some leg protectors and kick that thing too. It will work your core and improve flexibility.
My teacher always warns us first hit the bag and let hard and fast come after good form. If you break a toe or finger you would be better off on a tread mill.

I'm only 19 so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.
I work out with a heavy bag and I almost broke my wrist one time. I think the most important thing in heavy bad training is your stance. Punch the bag and stand and wait for it to come back (if it moves at all lol) then punch it again. Don't hit it to hard or youll hurt you wrist like I did. Try to keep good form. If you weigh more then the bag than you shouldn't move when it comes back. Practice just pushing the bag then let it hit you and try not to move at all when it hits you. It is hard, I won't lie.
Don't take this to heart because I'm not shure if it is the right way to do it or not. That is just what I do.

if you hit it hard enough to move it and hit it again before it comes all the way back and it moves further away thats where you get the punching power. but you do have to be careful.
