Back is a little soft especially in the arms. Also a tan would help, but lets face it when your too soft your too soft. I'm trying to stick to a diet but as we all know that's the hardest part.

In response to your questions, here it goes. Now my back routine may seem a little strange but here it is.
Pull ups 5 sets to start go to failure on each set. On first set I get around 50. End up doing about 140 alltogether. Then I do spider rows for five sets pyramiding up from 2 to 4 plates and back to 2.
Then pulldown on hammerstrenght machine 5-6 sets.
that's what I did today I might mix it up but I usually try to get a good pump and do 15-18 sets.
I do back and bi's on the same day. After back I'll either do 3-4 sets of curls with a curl bar. then 3-5 sets preacher curls then curls with cables for 3-5 sets depending how I feel.
I do back and bi's about twice a week.
I've been at it a long time, about 20 years
I don't max out any more and go more for reps. There are alot of big guys in jersey. I try to eat alot of chicken and tuna designer whey protein.
Age34, Height 5'8", weight 185 (trying to get to 160) back when i was a kid and cared about that stuff I could bench 400 now I only use dumbells and mostly stick to 125's and below. And I'm 100% natural.

Wow there is a monster in the house.
Ultra impressive, I mean you could paint yourself green and play the part of incredible hulk. Humor aside 20 years of work, most impressive.
Do I understand when you say you want to weigh 160? Is that for a major cut for a show?

You have been doing this just as long as me. You look impressive.
Kickboy for his weight class that would be a good cut. He looks really good though. Can't wait to see some more pictures.

Just doing some math here.....
Ok....so you are about an inch or so taller than I..... you weigh 185 and going for 160 where as Iweigh 200 and am trying to get to 180......so... in the long run... that means there is hope for me yet! Hmmmm.....Seeing as how I myself feel like I 'can't' lose anymore... (but then again...have not tried as hard* as I really could) Perhaps I need to learn more on this whole "cut" thing.....as I understand it.. cutting will lose you some pouinds....
Perhaps it's high time that I get a 'real gym membership again.....I hate gyms though...(esp Gold's Gym)........nothing against you guys here that go to gyms or Gold's or anything....but the people here where I live... be-little** you ..... or at least they do me....(makes me wanna pull out my 16 gauge shotgun and show'em who's boss. http://www.illpumpyouup.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)
*Do not want to over do it, again. Bad Mojo!
**It's linke High School all over again.....glad I never pulled a Columbine....although the thought did cross my mind a few....and this was before that event took place....

Thanks for all the positive comments. I have recently been entertaining the fantasy of trying to box as a welterweight or super welterweight which would put my weight at around 150. Figure if I got to 160 I could drop the rest in water. I don't know if it's achievable,I'll see. Also although I have been working out for a long time my diet was crap until the lastyear or so. Iused to look really good when I was like 25 at about 175 then got really fat when I was 30-32 and weighed about 225. Just the last year or so got back into some sort of shape. I have three pics which show the transformation from in-out-in shape. I'll post.

tan photo age 25 weight 175
overweight photo age 31 weight 225 smoking pack a day
photo top right yesterday age 34 weight around 180, haven't smoked in almost 2 years.
Actually, I'm more proud of the quitting smoking than the weight loss. When I was almost 50 pounds heavier noone really paid attention now people walk up to me in the gym and tell me I'm getting huge. I tell them it's an illusion, and I'm actually shrinking. They think I'm insane.

sympthy4tdvl-very nice work buddy! I ppromise I'm not being an a$$ here - but are the legs as developed as the upper body? If they are - you have got one heck of a build. Many of us older fellas are 100% natural - and many of us came from the same "old school" philosophy that you did. There is no substitute for hard work, decent diet, and a positive mental attitude. Many of us have also been on that roller coaster ride of up's and down's (you talked about your weight) - and I am sure that you have some very good experience that you can contribute to the board. Nice to have you here!
Jacentk2-there is always hope, and you can loose more weight if you really want to. As a basic concept, while you are attempting to build large amounts of muscle - it is best if you are not trying to cut at the same time. Cutting (to a point of less than 12% BF) takes a lot of energy, leaving you with less energy to hit the weights you need to build mass. If you think about it, it is fairly simple - if you are eating less (especially carbs/fats), doing more cardio - where is the explosive energy you need to build going to come from - and how much will there be? The answer is, your immediate energy stores are going to be depleated (not gone completely but depleated none the less) - and there is just plain less energy there to build mass. The point I'm trying to make here is: Build to where you think you want to be, then cut (using diet and cardio), then maintain what you have with a balance of nutrition, weigts, and isometrics. Then, the world will be your oyster - and there will be no need for you to use that shotgun because you will be "da man"!

First off! Congrats Congrats Congrats!!!!! On all levels....the quiting smoking! The Body transformation! The inspiration you give and the determination that you have in some part instilled back in me!!
Well.....that proves it.....(although cases may vary) .... that there is hope for the rest of us! LOL.... (I detest smoking and drinking so no worries there)
Ireally wish I had a ...local pal to train with....but alas, I live in the boonies...and pals are in short supply that share my desire. I know no one with the determination to do a body transformation...and the only local I do have....well....he's skinnier than Gumby and lazy as Dagwood....in fact... he kinda looks like Dagwood...
Enoght of that. DUDE YOU ROCK!!!!! At your rate.... I see no problem with your goal! Keep it up and one day I hope to even remotely get the physique you have...... and I am only 26.....

The Calories and Fats have been reduced. Yes....Cardio...is my problem....I am getting better at maintaining a constant jog... (See my journal)....I was never a runner and never really did like cardio that much.... Jumpping rope in the begining of this journey helped spur the rest on...and now that I have the treadmill...I am slowwly build up to longer jogs... and hope runs.... when I first started... with the joump rope...I was also doing ... an .. unconventional method of Cardio..... ever hear of DDR? Well it was a exercise/cardio routine that literally tracks your progress....which is cool....
As for the weights...I only do those to try to maintain some muscle mass wile doing the cardio so that I only burn fat. Are you saying that I should consider slacking off the 'weights' and just 'run, jump, dance' away the last 20? LOL Thanks Madman!

Jacentk2-If you wanted to, you could do your: running, jumping, and dancing (http://www.illpumpyouup.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)on one day, and your weights on the other days. Considering that you are more concerned with weight loss right now - you will do cardio 3-4X/week and weights twice. Just don't go crazy with this weight loss thing buddy - don't laugh.... I've seen it happen. I'd hate to see you looking like one of the Olsen twins!

Let me guess....at age 25.... you were still in College/just getting out....and had full access to the school gym? Then afterward went downward (in your 30-32) and then Got back on top of it here recently?

Powernick-it really depends on how much weight you want to loose, how much you weigh now, how many calories you take in a day etc. However, if you are doing cardio 3 to 4 times a week (your motivation then would obviously be loosing weight, not gaining muscle) - I would run two of the sessions at 45 min and heart rate between 110 and 125, and one or two sessions at 30 min at the same heart rate. This is only a GUIDELINE, not a rule - you could do a little more if you aren't getting the desired results, or a little less if you are feeling tired or lethargic the day following your cardio session.

Also cycling your carbs at key moments throughout the day plays a crucial role in your fat loss.

i weigh at about 164-170lbs. and my calorie intake is about 2500-3000. i do the stationary bike for 10 minutes in the morning everyday and 30minutes later on in the day on tuesdays and thursdays.also ijust started about 2 weeks ago and since then ive been feeling really great. i dont want to reduce calories because mebeing a powerlifter i dont want to loose strenght if i reduce calories drastically.
