I am new to the forum, and just started working out. I am 34 around 5'6"-5'7" and I weigh about 178. I have muscles, and really do not care to lose weight. I just want to lose fat. My fat is mostly around my mid section as with most men I guess.

From what I have read I understand that I need to burn more calories than I consume, but I am wondering if I need to take some supplements with that. I read about hydroxycut, and other supplements but they all sound good. I am working out with dumbells in my home, and I just started running for the cardio end.

Cardio 4 times a week for half an hour at your target heart rate will burn fat, but only if you have a good diet.
Try cycling carbs throughout the week to encourage more fat loss.
Also gaining muscle will lose fat, so you might want to think about joining a gym.

Eat! Eat, then 3 hours later eat again, then 3 hours later eat again, repeat repeat repeat! I think I saw it said that a 40/40/20 diet is good, which is grams of protein/carbs/fats. Eat nothing but "clean" and lean foods like chicken breast and fresh veggies. Stay away from sugars except for postwork out, and make sure you don't over do it at the gym/workout/cardio or you'll end up destroying muscles. Rest periods are important.

Hope it helps. Read through other people's posts for a wealth of information. Try reading some body building websites as well.

Thanks for the responses. I purchased hydroxycut today, and the pharmacist said that it should help, but that everyones body reacts differently. I will try to get my wife to take a picture, so I can post it in this thread.

Excuse my ignorance, but how would I know what my target heart rate is?

I have read that you need to eat more often with less amounts, and drink more water. I have no problem with that, but I am on the go all day long so it is hard to eat often, and even harder to eat something besides fast food. I am going to try to eat fruit for snacks. I am going to try to read some more tonight.

Max heart rate = 220 - age.

Probably target is 60-75% of that.

max heart rate is 220 - your age multiplied by .7 or .8 and 80% is diet so try n get as many good foods as possible and patience .. changed happen over night but not durastic ... be consistent and don't give up ... only the weak give up =o/
